Soames has been caught!

This Christmas Eve we had a very big surprise indeed as in honor of Charles's impending nuptials with Miss Evie, Mr. Gregory Soames revealed that he was, indeed, the much travelled and little seen Mr. James Pemberton!

At first, Mrs. E-B was in a bemused state of denial as her brother had taken the job as butler only months after dropping off young Charles in the care if his aunt. He was able to convince her of his true identity only after calling her the childhood nickname he had for her, "Baby Cakes."

Master Pemberton confessed to feeling lost, and a bit unstable, upon the recent loss of his beautiful wife and the forced abandonment of his young son. He claims to have wandered the docks of Boston much distraught, when he came upon the idea of disguising himself and slipping back into his young son's new life. He felt that he had to concoct such a crazy scheme because he would not have permitted himself to live as a freeloader on the E-B's hospitality and could not have continued his antique importation business out of the E-B home on Front St.

He said that it was hardest when Charles would act up and he would not be able to step in to discipline the lad.

He would regularly mail two letters to each friend he had in a foreign country, asking them to return one for his sister or son in that country's mail. He also said that for years he was on the verge of confessing whenever Miss Tracy set a place for her "Chester" at the dinner table or blamed him for eating her homework because, and I quote, "It wasn't a real monkey, Damn it, and I've been blamed for sending it to her for years."
